Which is better for a commuter student: Arizona State University or Temple University?

Temple is usually the more natural fit if commuter-friendliness is your main priority. Commuting is a very normal part of student life there, the campus sits right in Philadelphia with strong public transit access, and it tends to be easier to stay connected to classes and campus activity without living in a residence hall. Arizona State can still work for commuters, but the experience depends much more on which ASU campus you attend and how far you live from it.

Because the main campus is embedded in a major city, students can get in and out by train, subway, bus, car, or regional rail, which matters a lot if you want flexibility and do not want your whole day built around parking and driving. That setup also makes it easier to come to campus for one class, leave, and return for an event if needed.

ASU fits a student who is comfortable being more intentional about campus involvement. Tempe in particular has a big, active campus, but it also feels more spread out and car-oriented for many students, especially depending on where you live in the Phoenix area. ASU does offer resources and activities for nonresidential students, but the commuter experience can feel less unified because the university operates across multiple campuses and the surrounding metro area is so large.

If your concern is feeling less disconnected without dorming, Temple has the edge. Its physical layout, urban transit access, and commuter-normal culture make it easier to plug in even if you are only on campus part of the day.
