If you expect to build your career in Arizona or nearby, that network can be very practical and easy to tap into.

Penn State’s advantage is that its alumni culture is especially visible and organized. The school has long-standing alumni chapters, a strong sense of identity, and a reputation for graduates actively opening doors for other Penn Staters. That matters for internships and first jobs because a network is not just about size, it is also about how willing people are to respond, refer, and mentor.

In national terms, both are well-known public universities with large alumni communities, but Penn State is more often seen as having the stronger overall alumni network. ASU’s network is substantial and useful, especially regionally, but Penn State’s tends to feel tighter and more activated. If alumni connection is one of your top deciding factors by itself, Penn State is the safer pick.
