Is Fordham or Boston College better for finance?
I’m a high school senior trying to narrow down my college list and both Fordham and Boston College are on it because I want to study finance. I know both schools have strong reputations, but I’m trying to understand which one is generally considered better for getting into finance careers.
I’m mostly comparing them for overall finance placement and recruiting strength.

Boston College has the edge for finance overall, especially for undergraduate recruiting into high-paying finance roles. Its Carroll School of Management has a particularly strong reputation. Alumni presence on Wall Street and in major finance firms is one of BC’s biggest advantages.
One concrete difference is school-level business access. At Boston College, finance sits inside an undergraduate business school that is very well known nationally, which tends to make recruiting more structured and visible. Employers often know exactly what the Carroll School represents, and that brand matters when firms are sorting large applicant pools.
Another differentiator is placement into traditional front-office finance paths. BC is especially well regarded for investment banking and buy-side adjacent paths compared with most peers in the Northeast outside the very top tier. Students aiming for those roles usually benefit from stronger alumni pipelines, finance clubs, and a recruiting culture that is already built around those outcomes.
Fordham is still a very solid option, and its New York City location is a real advantage for internships during the school year. Gabelli has good connections and can place students into finance, especially if you are proactive about networking and gaining experience early. But in terms of pure overall recruiting strength and reputation with finance employers, Boston College is more often viewed as the stronger platform.
The one area where Fordham can be especially appealing is access to NYC during college. Being in or near Manhattan can make it easier to stack internships and meet people in person while school is in session. That helps motivated students a lot, but it does not fully outweigh BC’s stronger undergraduate finance brand and alumni pull.
