It also carries a level of institutional recognition that can help when your application is being read in a crowded pool, though that matters less than your actual record.

One big difference is the clinical and research environment. At Yale, the university, medical school, and affiliated hospitals are closely integrated, so finding medically relevant research, shadowing, and volunteering can be more straightforward and concentrated in one place. Arizona State has solid opportunities too, and the Phoenix metro area, but the pathway can feel more decentralized and may require more self-direction.
