Is Adelphi or Boston University better for biology?
I’m trying to compare Adelphi and Boston University as a biology major and figure out which one would be the better fit for undergrad. I care most about the strength of the biology program and how well it sets students up for future plans in science or pre-med.
I’m not really sure how much of a difference there is between the two schools for biology, so I’m looking for a straightforward comparison.

Boston University is the stronger pick for biology if you want a larger, more research-intensive environment with broader course options and stronger name recognition in science and pre-med circles. BU has extensive lab and hospital connections in Boston, a deep life sciences ecosystem, and many paths into research, public health, neuroscience, biotech, and medical settings during the school year. Adelphi can still work well, especially for a student who wants smaller classes, more direct faculty access, and a less overwhelming setting.
BU fits the student who wants scale and momentum around science. You would be in a university with major research activity, a wide range of upper-level biology opportunities, and access to nearby medical and research institutions that can matter for internships, shadowing, and lab work. For pre-med, that environment can be especially useful because there are many science-oriented peers, advising resources, and clinical possibilities, though it can also feel competitive and less personal.
Adelphi fits the student who learns best with closer mentoring and wants professors to know them well early on. That can be a real advantage for recommendation letters, class participation, and finding leadership roles without competing with as many students. If you are pre-med and want a more supported, lower-scale environment where it may be easier to stand out academically, Adelphi has appeal, but it does not offer the same breadth of research infrastructure or the same built-in access to a major science hub that BU does.
For pure program strength and scientific opportunities, BU has the edge. For individualized attention and a potentially more manageable undergraduate experience, Adelphi has a clear case.
