Is Santa Clara University or Yale harder to get into?

I'm trying to understand how selective different colleges are when I compare my list. Santa Clara University and Yale both seem strong, but I keep seeing very different opinions about how hard they are to get into.

I just want a straightforward comparison of which one is generally more difficult to gain admission to.

Yale is much harder to get into than Santa Clara University. It is one of the most selective universities in the country, with an applicant pool full of top grades, rigorous coursework, and exceptional extracurricular achievement. Santa Clara is selective too, but it admits from a broader academic range and is not in the same tier of admissions difficulty.

For a student building a list, Yale belongs in the highest-reach category for almost everyone, including applicants with near-perfect academics. Its process is intensely competitive because many applicants are already academically qualified, so decisions often come down to how distinctive the overall application is.

Santa Clara fits a different kind of admissions landscape. A strong student with solid grades in challenging classes, good writing, and meaningful involvement has a more realistic shot there than at Yale. It is still not a safety for every applicant, but it is far more attainable.

So if your question is simply which school is tougher to gain admission to, the answer is Yale by a wide margin. Santa Clara is a respected and selective university, but Yale is on an entirely different level of selectivity.
