Auburn or UGA for business: which is the better choice for an undergraduate business major?

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: UGA usually offers the stronger business brand and broader recruiting reach, while Auburn often feels more personal and easier to navigate day to day. For undergraduate business specifically, UGA’s Terry College has a very strong reputation, deep employer connections, and access to a large alumni base, especially across Atlanta. Auburn’s Harbert College is well regarded too, but its recruiting footprint is typically a bit more regional and the overall business prestige is not quite at the same level.

On academics and opportunities, UGA has an edge for most students. Terry is especially known for strong outcomes in areas like finance, accounting, MIS, risk management, and marketing, and Atlanta matters a lot here because it creates more internship access during the school year as well as after graduation. UGA also tends to offer more volume in student organizations, case competitions, business clubs, and employer events tied directly to business majors.

Auburn still has real strengths, especially if you value a more close-knit campus culture and a somewhat more manageable feel. Many students are very happy there, and Harbert can absolutely lead to strong jobs, particularly in the Southeast. In some cases, students find it easier to stand out at Auburn, build relationships with professors, and get involved early rather than competing in a larger, more crowded business ecosystem.

If cost is similar and you are choosing strictly on undergraduate business academics, recruiting, and opportunity depth, I’d lean UGA. It tends to open more doors across more business fields, and Terry carries more weight with employers. Auburn is a solid option, but between these two, UGA is the one I would pick for business unless Auburn is meaningfully cheaper or clearly feels like the place where you’d thrive more.
