Is Tulane or Indiana University better for finance careers?

I’m a high school senior trying to decide between Tulane and Indiana University, and I’m interested in finance after college.

I know both schools have business programs, but I’m trying to understand which one is generally stronger for helping students break into finance careers and get good recruiting opportunities.

For finance, Indiana University usually has the clearer edge, especially if you want a large, established pipeline into investment banking, asset management, corporate finance, and related roles. IU’s Kelley School of Business is widely known by employers, has a very structured undergraduate business curriculum, and offers strong recruiting support through workshops, clubs, and career services built specifically around finance paths. Tulane can still work well, but it tends to be more about taking advantage of a smaller network and New Orleans connections rather than plugging into as broad a finance machine as Kelley.

Indiana fits the student who wants a deep bench of finance resources and is comfortable in a bigger, more pre-professional environment. Kelley has a long-standing reputation in business, and students aiming for high-finance roles often benefit from the size of the alumni base and the number of finance-focused student organizations. If you like a campus culture where many peers are also aiming for business internships early, IU makes that path easier to navigate.

Tulane fits someone who wants a more distinctive campus experience and may value flexibility, smaller-scale networking, and a strong overall student experience alongside business. Tulane’s business school is respected, and its alumni can be very loyal, but finance recruiting there is typically less extensive and less systematized than at Kelley. For students interested in areas tied to energy, real estate, or regional business networks, Tulane can offer useful access, especially if they are proactive.

If your definition of “better for finance careers” is strongest recruiting infrastructure and the broadest set of finance opportunities right out of college, Indiana is the safer bet. Tulane becomes more compelling if you strongly prefer its location, culture, or overall college experience and are confident you’ll hustle for internships and networking rather than relying on a very built-out recruiting pipeline.
