Which is better for finance careers: University of Hawaii or Georgetown?

I’m trying to figure out which school would give me a better path into finance. I’m interested in internships, recruiting, and getting a strong first job after college.

Both schools seem very different, so I’m wondering which one has the stronger reputation and opportunities for finance careers.

Georgetown is the stronger option for finance careers. It has a much deeper pipeline into investment banking, consulting, asset management, and related fields, especially through the McDonough School of Business, its location in Washington, DC, and a very active alumni network in finance and business. For internships, recruiting, and first-job outcomes, Georgetown offers a far more established ecosystem.

One major differentiator is recruiting access. Georgetown draws employers that regularly hire for high-paying finance roles, and students benefit from structured on-campus recruiting, finance clubs, alumni mentorship, and easy access to internships during the school year. University of Hawaii can absolutely lead to business careers, but it does not have the same national pull with top finance employers or the same volume of finance-focused recruiting.

Another difference is brand recognition in the industries most students mean when they say finance. Georgetown carries a stronger reputation with firms in New York, DC, and other major financial hubs, which matters when you are competing for analyst roles right out of college. University of Hawaii is more regionally connected and can be a good choice for students who want to build a career in Hawaii or the Pacific, but that is a narrower lane.

The network effect is also much more powerful at Georgetown. In finance, alumni connections often help with informational interviews, referrals, and internship leads, and Georgetown has a long track record of placing graduates into those circles. That kind of built-in access can materially change your early career options.

Cost still matters, of course. If University of Hawaii would leave you with dramatically less debt, that is worth serious consideration, because finance careers are not one single path and outcomes depend on your performance too.
