Which school is better for finance careers: University of Hawaii or Penn State?

Its business school has a much larger national recruiting footprint, stronger alumni depth in finance-heavy markets, and more on-campus pathways into internships and full-time roles than the University of Hawaii. For a student aiming at investment banking, corporate finance, asset management, or broader East Coast finance recruiting, Penn State gives you more built-in access.

One major differentiator is employer visibility. That matters because recruiting in finance is often regional and relationship-driven, and Penn State’s size and alumni network create more chances to meet firms through career fairs, student organizations, and alumni connections.

Another difference is the overall business ecosystem on campus. Penn State’s Smeal College of Business is more established as a feeder into finance-related internships, case competitions, student-managed funds, and finance clubs that mirror the kind of technical and professional preparation employers look for. The University of Hawaii can still work, especially for students interested in staying in Hawaii or pursuing business roles tied to tourism, real estate, or local banking, but it does not offer the same scale of finance recruiting.
