Williams or Pomona for internships: which college gives better internship opportunities for undergraduates?

Pomona has the clearer edge for undergraduate internships. Its location in Southern California puts students much closer to a large year-round market for internships in business, media, tech, nonprofits, healthcare, government, and research, and being part of the Claremont Colleges expands that access because students can tap into a wider employer network and recruiting ecosystem than a single small liberal arts college usually offers.

That geography matters in practical ways. During the semester, Pomona students can more realistically hold part-time internships in Los Angeles, Pasadena, Ontario, or other nearby hubs without needing to rely only on summer opportunities. At Williams, the alumni network is very strong and loyal, but the college’s rural setting in Williamstown makes in-semester internships harder to come by, so students often depend more on summers and alumni introductions rather than nearby employers.

Pomona also benefits from the five-college structure for career access. Shared recruiting events, cross-campus programming, and a broader base of students and alumni create more touchpoints with employers, especially in Southern California. That does not mean Williams lacks outcomes, because it places students well into finance, consulting, research, and graduate study, but much of that strength comes through relationships and reputation rather than simple proximity to internship sites.

For pure access while you are still an undergrad, Pomona’s combination of location and Claremont resources is hard to beat. Williams is excellent for mentorship and alumni support, but Pomona usually makes the internship search logistically easier and broader during the school year.
