Williams vs. Pomona: which college has better campus life?

Pomona has the edge for campus life if you want a livelier, more varied day-to-day experience. Its biggest advantage is the Claremont Consortium: Pomona students share social life, clubs, dining halls, classes, and events with the other Claremont colleges, so the campus feels much bigger than a single small liberal arts college.

Location matters too. Pomona is in suburban Southern California, with warm weather that keeps students outdoors and makes the campus feel active year-round. Students can walk around Claremont Village, and the setting tends to support a more open, less isolated rhythm of life than a rural campus.

Williams is more close-knit, but that same closeness can feel quieter and more contained. Williamstown is beautiful and students often describe the community as tight, loyal, and deeply engaged with campus traditions, but it is also more remote. Social life exists, of course, but it depends more heavily on the college itself because there is less going on immediately around it.

Another difference is scale of interaction. At Williams, the smaller, more self-contained environment can make friendships and communities feel especially strong, and some students love that everyone seems to know one another. At Pomona, you still get the intimacy of a liberal arts college, but with more social variety and less chance of feeling boxed into one scene.
