At UCSB, the campus sits right on the ocean in Isla Vista, and students can walk from many parts of campus to the sand in minutes. At UCSC, the campus is set up in the hills and redwoods above town, so getting to the beach usually means a longer walk, bike ride, bus trip, or drive downhill.

UCSB is the clearer choice if your priority is frequent, easy beach time between classes or on a casual afternoon. The beach is not just nearby, it is part of the campus environment, and that changes how often students actually go.
