Michigan makes more sense for the student who wants aerospace engineering at an elite level but also values the wider academic flexibility and campus breadth that come with a large, comprehensive university. If you might want to combine aerospace with strong work in areas like robotics, computer science, public policy, business, or other cross-disciplinary interests, Michigan can be especially appealing. Its overall academic brand is extremely powerful, and that can matter if your interests expand beyond a narrowly defined aerospace path.

If the question is strictly which program is more commonly viewed as the stronger pure undergraduate aerospace option, Purdue probably gets the nod. If the question is which school offers the stronger overall university environment while still giving you outstanding aerospace training, Michigan has a real case.
