Its setting in Boone makes the campus feel like the center of town, and a lot of student life is built around outdoor activities, school spirit, and people staying local on weekends. Minnesota can absolutely be social, but it feels more spread out and city-shaped.

One big difference is campus environment. Appalachian State has a classic college-town atmosphere where students are more likely to run into each other, go to the same bars or house gatherings, and build a shared weekend culture around campus. At Minnesota, you get the advantages of Minneapolis, but that also means social life is less centralized. Students disperse across neighborhoods, apartments, internships, concerts, and city activities, so the experience can feel less unified.
