Is University of San Diego or Loyola Marymount more fun for undergrads?

I’m trying to choose between USD and LMU and keep hearing both have a good social scene. I know “fun” is subjective, but I’m mostly trying to get a feel for the overall weekend vibe, campus energy, and whether people seem happy and active outside of class.

I’m a current high school senior trying to figure out which school would feel more enjoyable day to day.

For most undergrads, LMU tends to feel more lively day to day, while USD often feels more relaxed and polished. LMU’s location in Los Angeles, close to the beach and city neighborhoods, gives weekends a more off-campus, go-out-and-do-things energy. USD has a beautiful campus and strong school spirit too, but the vibe is usually calmer and a little less socially loud.

LMU fits students who want a busier social rhythm and like the idea that fun is not only on campus. A lot of the appeal there is being near Playa Vista, Venice, Santa Monica, concerts, restaurants, internships, and beach plans, so the social scene can feel more varied. Students who enjoy meeting people through clubs, campus events, Greek life, and spontaneous off-campus plans often find LMU especially energizing.

USD tends to suit students who want an upbeat college experience without feeling like they need constant motion. The campus itself is a huge part of the appeal, and students often talk about enjoying the weather, waterfront access, athletics, residence hall life, and a more contained social environment. People can still be very active and happy there, but the mood is more laid-back, less urban, and sometimes a bit more bubble-like.

If by fun you mean high visible energy every weekend, more people heading out, and more options beyond campus, LMU probably has the edge. If fun to you means a gorgeous campus, sunny social atmosphere, and a more comfortable everyday pace, USD can easily feel more enjoyable. In practice, LMU often feels more dynamic, while USD often feels more easygoing.
