Is University of Houston or USC better for finance careers?
I’m trying to decide between these two schools and I’m interested in a career in finance after college.
I know both have strong alumni networks, but I’m mostly wondering which one is generally better for getting internships and full-time jobs in finance and investment banking.

The biggest practical tradeoff is reach versus cost and convenience: USC gives you a much stronger on-campus pipeline into finance recruiting, especially for high-paying front-office roles, while the University of Houston can work well for finance careers in Texas but usually requires more self-driven networking for investment banking.
For internships and full-time jobs, USC is the clearer pick if your target is investment banking, buy-side roles later on, or highly structured recruiting from large firms. USC students benefit from a very active Trojan alumni network, and that network matters a lot in finance because referrals, coffee chats, and club pipelines often open doors before formal applications do.
University of Houston can still lead to strong outcomes, especially if you want to build a career in Houston, work in energy-related finance, or keep costs far lower. In that market, being local helps, and some employers value students who already know the region and plan to stay. But for investment banking specifically, you would likely need to hustle harder for each step, including networking, technical prep, and finding internships early.
If the question is strictly which school is better for finance recruiting and investment banking access, USC is the better option. University of Houston becomes more compelling mainly when cost is dramatically lower and you are comfortable targeting Texas-focused finance paths rather than expecting the same recruiting platform USC offers.
