The biggest practical tradeoff is broad national name recognition versus a smaller, more regionally concentrated reputation. Michigan has a much bigger public profile across the U.S. and internationally, while Lehigh is well respected but tends to be better known in certain industries and regions, especially in the Northeast. To most employers and grad schools, both are credible, rigorous universities, but the Michigan name is more instantly recognizable to a wider audience.

In prestige terms, Michigan is usually seen as having the stronger overall brand.
