Which is better for finance careers: Colgate or Emory?
I’m trying to decide between Colgate and Emory and keep hearing different opinions about which one is stronger for finance recruiting. I’m mainly interested in business and eventually want to work in finance, so I’m trying to understand which school has the better reputation and pipeline for that path.

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: Emory gives you a more direct business-and-finance ecosystem, while Colgate offers a smaller liberal arts setting with a loyal alumni network but less built-in business infrastructure. Emory has the Goizueta Business School, clear access to finance-related coursework and recruiting, and a larger concentration of students targeting business careers. Colgate can still place students into finance, especially through alumni connections, but the path is usually less formalized and more dependent on your own networking.
For finance specifically, Emory has the clearer edge. Having an undergraduate business school matters because it creates more obvious recruiting channels, more classmates pursuing similar goals, and easier access to finance clubs, internships, and employer visibility. Atlanta also helps, both for internships during the school year and for proximity to a major business hub.
Colgate’s strength is the tight-knit community and the fact that alumni often go out of their way to help students. In some finance circles, especially where liberal arts graduates are respected for writing and analytical skills, Colgate can do well. But you would likely need to be more proactive in building the technical and professional side of your profile, since the campus is not centered around business in the same way Emory is.
Reputation-wise, Emory is usually the name that carries more immediate recognition in business settings, especially because of Goizueta. Colgate has a strong academic reputation, but it is more associated with the liberal arts experience than with finance preparation.
If your main goal is maximizing structure, recruiting access, and business credibility for finance, I would lean Emory.
