Florida vs Arizona State for a big school experience

For a classic big-school atmosphere, the University of Florida usually feels more like a traditional flagship college experience, while Arizona State often feels bigger in scale but less centered around one unified campus. UF has a very concentrated college-town setting in Gainesville, packed SEC sports culture, and a student body that revolves heavily around campus. ASU has huge energy too, especially in Tempe, but its multi-campus structure and city setting can make the experience feel more spread out.

UF fits the student who wants the school to dominate daily life. Gainesville is very much a college town, so weekends, events, bars, clubs, and football Saturdays tend to pull students into the same orbit. If “big school” to you means strong campus identity, lots of visible school spirit, and the sense that most people around you are part of the same university community, Florida tends to deliver that more clearly.

ASU fits the student who wants constant activity and a large social scene, but with a more urban and decentralized feel. Tempe is lively and there is no shortage of people, events, and things happening, yet ASU can feel less enclosed because it is embedded in the Phoenix metro area and connected to several campuses. That can be exciting if you like having access to a major city, internships, restaurants, and off-campus life woven into the experience.

If your priority is not feeling isolated, both work, but in different ways. UF avoids isolation by making the university itself the center of the environment. ASU avoids isolation by placing you in a dense metro area with a huge student population and broader city life around you.

For pure “everyone’s here, this place revolves around the school” energy, Florida has the edge. For “there are always people and always something going on, but it feels more like part of a city,” Arizona State makes more sense.
