McGill usually comes across as the more fun pick for undergrads if you mean lively day-to-day social energy. Its downtown Montreal location puts students in the middle of a dense, walkable city with cafes, concerts, festivals, bars, and student hangouts right outside campus, so social life often spills naturally beyond school grounds. That makes it feel active even on ordinary weekdays, not just during organized campus events.

UBC has a beautiful campus and plenty happening, but its atmosphere is different. The Vancouver campus is stunning, with beaches, forests, and a lot of outdoor recreation right there, so students who define fun as hiking, biking, ocean views, and big campus events may actually prefer it. But because UBC is farther from downtown Vancouver, the social scene can feel more campus-centered and a bit less immediate than McGill’s.

The vibe also differs socially. McGill tends to feel more urban, fast-moving, and integrated with the city, which many undergrads experience as more energetic. UBC can feel more self-contained and scenic, which is great for some students but not always as buzzier on a random Tuesday night.

So if by fun you mean a more electric social atmosphere with easy access to city life, McGill has the edge. If your idea of fun leans more toward outdoors, a classic residential campus, and West Coast lifestyle, UBC has its own appeal, but it usually feels less constantly lively than McGill.
