Which is better for finance, Auburn or NC State?

I’m a high school student trying to narrow down colleges and I’m interested in finance. Auburn and NC State are both on my list, but I’m not sure which one is the stronger choice for learning finance and preparing for jobs after graduation.

I’m mostly trying to understand which school would give me the better overall finance experience.

For finance specifically, Auburn is usually the clearer pick. Auburn has a dedicated Harbert College of Business with a more traditional undergraduate business setup, so finance majors tend to get a more direct business-school experience, more classmates focused on similar paths, and stronger visibility for finance-related student organizations and recruiting. NC State is a very strong university overall, but it is more widely known for engineering, STEM, and applied, industry-connected programs than for being a destination school for undergraduate finance.

Auburn tends to fit students who want a classic business environment. If you want your classes, student clubs, career center resources, and campus identity to feel closely tied to business from early on, Auburn offers that more naturally.

NC State makes more sense for a student who likes finance but also wants a campus with a stronger tech, analytics, or quantitative feel. If you are interested in combining finance with data, economics, supply chain, statistics, or a more analytical business angle, NC State can be appealing. Its location in the Research Triangle is also a real advantage for internships and employer access, especially if you want to explore finance-adjacent roles in consulting, analytics, fintech, or corporate operations.

For the overall finance experience, Auburn is likely stronger in the sense most high school students mean it: a more established undergraduate business atmosphere and a more obvious home for a finance major. NC State is the more compelling option if your interests lean interdisciplinary and you want to be on a campus where business connects closely with tech and quantitative fields.

If finance is your main priority rather than a broader analytics or STEM-business mix, Auburn has the edge.
