Is Fordham worth the extra cost compared with Florida State University?

For most students, Fordham is not worth paying a lot more than Florida State unless you have a very specific reason to use its New York City location or a program there that clearly fits your goals. Florida State is a strong public university with broad academics, an active alumni network, and solid outcomes, while Fordham’s biggest advantage is access to New York-based internships during the school year. If the price difference would mean significant family strain or substantially more debt, FSU is usually the smarter value.

One concrete difference is internship access during the semester. Fordham, especially with its New York setting, makes it much easier to intern in finance, media, nonprofit work, politics, fashion, and other industries while taking classes. That can matter if you want frequent in-person networking and early professional experience tied to the city.

Another difference is campus scale and student experience. Florida State offers the resources of a large flagship university, including more school spirit, major athletics, and a wider range of research and student organizations. For many students, that translates into just as many opportunities, but you may need to be more proactive about building connections than you would in a city-centered environment like Fordham.

For outcomes after college, the higher price only makes sense if Fordham gives you a direct edge you are likely to use. For example, if you are committed to working in New York right after graduation, already know you want an internship-heavy path, or strongly prefer Fordham’s Jesuit and urban setting, the premium can be justified. But if you are choosing based on overall academic quality and long-term value, FSU is hard to beat at a much lower cost.
