UC Davis vs Indiana for finance careers: which school has better recruiting and alumni network?

I’m a high school senior deciding between UC Davis and Indiana, and I want to go into finance after college. Both schools seem solid, but I’m trying to understand which one gives students a stronger path into finance recruiting and has the better alumni network for landing internships and first jobs.

I’m mainly interested in how each school is viewed by employers in finance and how much the career support and alumni connections actually help.

Indiana gives you the clearer edge for finance careers. The biggest reason is the Kelley School of Business, which has a much more established pipeline into finance recruiting, especially for investment banking, corporate finance, and related internships. Employers in finance know Kelley well, and Indiana’s business-focused alumni base is especially active in helping students break in.

Kelley is a concrete differentiator because finance recruiting there is built into the undergraduate experience in a way UC Davis usually is not. Indiana has well-known business clubs, workshops, career preparation systems, and alumni-driven recruiting channels that are specifically aimed at finance roles. That matters a lot when you are trying to get your first internship, since early access to technical prep, resume feedback, and upperclassmen guidance often shapes who gets interviews.

The alumni network is also more directly useful for finance. UC Davis has a large and respected alumni base, but it is broader and less concentrated in traditional finance recruiting circles. Indiana’s network, especially through Kelley, tends to be easier to tap for Wall Street, Chicago finance, and major corporate finance opportunities because there is a long-standing culture of alumni outreach and student mentorship tied specifically to business careers.

Career support follows the same pattern. UC Davis can still work well, particularly for students interested in business-related paths on the West Coast, and motivated students there can absolutely reach finance. But for a student already focused on finance recruiting, Indiana offers a more intentional setup: stronger employer recognition in business, more structured recruiting support, and a finance alumni network that is likely to be more immediately helpful for internships and first jobs.
