ASU tends to fit the student who wants lots of options and a more spread-out, high-energy social atmosphere. Because Tempe is in a major metro area, the party culture is not limited to one strip or one type of event. You get a mix of Greek life, apartment parties, bar scenes on Mill Avenue, and events connected to a huge student body. For someone who likes variety and wants nightlife both on and off campus, that environment is hard to beat.

Iowa makes more sense for the student who wants a classic college-town party culture where the social scene feels more concentrated and student-centered. Iowa City is very well known for having bars and parties tightly woven into student life, and the atmosphere can feel more cohesive because the town revolves so much around the university. It is often easier to feel like everyone is part of the same weekend scene rather than spread across a large metro area.

If by “better” you mean nonstop options, warm-weather social life, and a bigger overall nightlife ecosystem, ASU stands out. If you mean a traditional Big Ten college-town weekend where the party culture is central and highly visible, Iowa is very compelling. Between the two, ASU is probably the stronger pick for maximum volume and variety, while Iowa is the one for a more concentrated, all-in college-town vibe.
