Arizona State vs Auburn: which school has the better campus vibe?

I'm trying to decide between Arizona State and Auburn and campus vibe is a big factor for me. I care a lot about whether the school feels lively, social, and easy to get involved in outside of class.

I know both have strong school spirit, but I want to understand which one tends to feel more fun and welcoming as a student.

Both can feel lively and social, but the vibe is pretty different. Auburn tends to feel more tight-knit, tradition-heavy, and centered around a classic college-town experience, while Arizona State usually feels bigger, busier, and more varied because of its size and location in the Phoenix area. If you want a campus where school spirit and student life are very concentrated in one place, Auburn often gives that feeling more strongly. If you like having a lot happening, lots of different kinds of people, and more off-campus options, ASU often feels more dynamic.

Auburn is usually the place that feels easier to “plug into” quickly if you want a strong shared campus identity. The town revolves around the university, SEC sports are a major part of student life, and traditions are very visible. For a student who wants weekends, events, and social life to feel centered around the school itself, Auburn often comes across as more cohesive and welcoming.

ASU fits students who want energy without feeling boxed into one social scene. The Tempe campus is active and social, but ASU is large and spread across a major metro area, so the vibe can feel less intimate and more choose-your-own-experience. That can be exciting if you want clubs, nightlife, internships, big events, and a student body with a lot of variety, but it may take a little more effort to find your niche.

If “fun” to you means tailgates, traditions, and a strong sense that everyone is part of the same campus culture, Auburn probably has the edge. If “fun” means lots of options, constant activity, and a bigger-city atmosphere with more flexibility, ASU may feel more like your speed.
