Is Lehigh or Cornell harder to get into?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Cornell sits in a distinctly more selective admissions tier overall, while Lehigh is still competitive but usually more reachable for a wider range of strong applicants. Cornell draws a much larger global applicant pool, has Ivy-level name recognition, and is especially difficult in its most sought-after colleges and majors. Lehigh is selective too, but in most years it is not as hard to enter as Cornell.

So if your question is simply which school is harder to get into, the answer is Cornell. That is true both because of volume of applicants and because many students who apply there have very strong academics, advanced coursework, and high-level extracurricular profiles.

Lehigh’s admissions process is serious, but it tends to be less intense than Cornell’s overall. It is well regarded, especially for engineering, business, and its strong undergraduate experience, but it does not operate at the same admissions level as an Ivy with Cornell’s scale and visibility.

For building your list, it makes sense to treat Cornell as a reach for almost everyone, including very strong applicants. Lehigh can still be a reach or target depending on your grades, course rigor, and broader profile, but it is typically the more attainable of the two.
