The biggest practical tradeoff is that Maryland gives you a more direct connection to the DC-area tech, government, and cybersecurity ecosystem, while Ohio State offers the scale and reach of a very large flagship with a huge alumni network and broad recruiting presence. For undergraduate CS, both can lead to strong outcomes, but the day-to-day opportunity mix is a little different. Maryland tends to stand out for access to research, internships, and employers tied to federal agencies, defense, data, and cybersecurity, while Ohio State benefits from enormous campus resources, a very active engineering environment, and strong recruiting across the Midwest and beyond.

Ohio State is still a serious option for CS and has advantages that are easy to underrate. Its size means lots of student organizations, hackathons, career fairs, interdisciplinary opportunities, and a very large alumni base. At a school that big, motivated students can find almost any niche, from software engineering to AI to entrepreneurship, though you may need to be more proactive about navigating such a large system.
