Is UNC or NC State better for alumni networking?

I’m trying to decide between UNC and NC State and one thing I keep hearing about is the alumni network. I want a school where it’s easier to connect with graduates for internships, advice, and first jobs after college.

I’m mainly wondering which school has the stronger alumni network overall and which one tends to be more helpful for students starting out.

UNC has the edge for alumni networking overall, especially if you want a broad, high-visibility network that reaches into business, media, law, healthcare, politics, and national employers.

One concrete difference is where each school’s network is strongest. UNC’s alumni presence is especially noticeable in fields tied to the liberal arts and professional schools, including consulting, finance, public policy, journalism, and medicine.

NC State is extremely strong too, but its alumni network often feels most powerful in applied and industry-connected areas like engineering, computer science, textiles, agriculture, design, and certain business functions.

Another useful distinction is style. UNC’s network often helps through brand reach and a large number of alumni in influential roles, while NC State’s network can be especially hands-on and career-focused in technical pipelines. So if you mean strongest overall across the widest set of careers, UNC comes out ahead. If you mean most directly useful for engineering or applied STEM recruiting, NC State can be just as powerful, and in some cases stronger.
