Is Harvard University accredited?

I was talking with my parents about different colleges, and when I mentioned Harvard, my dad asked if it's actually accredited. I always just assumed it was because it's so famous, but now I'm second-guessing myself and can't find a clear answer on their website.

Does anyone know which organization accredits Harvard? Does the fact that it's so old change anything about its accreditation? Just trying to get my facts straight while researching colleges and making sure I apply to places with recognized credentials.

Harvard University is definitely accredited, and it’s fully recognized as one of the most reputable educational institutions in the United States. The main accrediting body for Harvard is the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). NECHE is a regional accreditor that oversees many of the top colleges and universities in New England, and their accreditation is a mark of academic quality and institutional integrity.

Harvard being such a historic and high-profile university doesn’t exempt it from regular accreditation reviews. In fact, all reputable universities in the US, regardless of how old or famous they are, need to maintain accreditation to ensure they meet certain standards of academic rigor, governance, and financial stability. Harvard actually goes through a comprehensive review process every 10 years to keep its status current. You can usually find updated information about Harvard’s accreditation on their Office of the Provost website or directly on NECHE’s own site.

If you’re planning on applying, you can be confident that degrees from Harvard are widely recognized by employers, graduate schools, and licensing boards.
