When does UC Berkeley release decisions for 2023 applicants?

I'm applying to UC Berkeley this year, and I'm getting super anxious trying to figure out when the decisions actually come out for the 2023 cycle. I know the UC schools usually have similar release timelines, but a bunch of different websites list different dates.

Does anyone know the exact or even approximate date that Berkeley usually releases its admissions decisions? Also, does it come out earlier for some applicants (like Regents or other programs), or is it at the same time for everyone?

I'm constantly refreshing my email every day now, so any info would be helpful!

UC Berkeley typically releases its freshman admissions decisions in late March each year. For the 2023 admissions cycle, decisions were announced on March 30, 2023. This release date was consistent for the majority of regular applicants.

However, there are exceptions for certain programs. For example, applicants being considered for the Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship are usually notified earlier if they have progressed to the next stage (like an interview or additional materials), but most final decisions—including scholarships—are released alongside standard admission notifications.

It’s worth noting that UC Berkeley does not offer an early action or early decision option, so the majority of students receive their notifications on the same date. There can be minor variations for transfer students or specific departments, but for freshman regular applicants, everyone finds out at roughly the same time.

A lot of students feel anxious leading up to this day, and you’re not alone in checking your email and the Berkeley applicant portal frequently! In the past, some students have received emails first, while others saw status changes in the application portal, so it helps to check both on decision day.

For future cycles (such as 2024), keep an eye on the UC Berkeley admissions website and official communications for updates. The admissions office is generally good about providing at least a week’s notice once the exact release date is confirmed.

Example: In 2022, decisions were released on March 24, and in 2023, they came out on March 30. This pattern helps estimate timing if you’re planning for future years. Try to focus on self-care in the meantime—decision day will arrive soon enough!
