Is Arizona State or Florida International better for internship opportunities?

For internship access specifically, Arizona State usually has the edge for most students. ASU has a very large employer network, frequent recruiting activity across multiple colleges, and strong connections in the Phoenix metro area, which has a broad mix of tech, engineering, business, health, media, and public sector employers. Its scale can feel overwhelming, but it also means more career fairs, more on-campus recruiting, and more structured internship pipelines.

ASU makes the most sense for a student who wants a wide national employer presence and lots of options across different industries. If you are studying engineering, business, computer science, journalism, or many health-related fields, ASU tends to offer more volume in internship postings and more built-out career infrastructure. Phoenix is also a practical market for semester internships because there are many employers nearby, not just seasonal opportunities.

FIU is attractive for a student who wants to build experience in Miami and South Florida specifically. Its location is a real advantage for internships tied to international business, hospitality, tourism, logistics, finance, healthcare, and government or nonprofit work in that region. If you want to stay in South Florida during school and start building a local network there early, FIU can be very effective.

The tradeoff is that FIU’s internship strength is a bit more region-specific, while ASU’s opportunities tend to be broader and more consistently scaled across majors. At FIU, students who are proactive often do well because Miami has plenty of employers, but the university’s advantage is tied more directly to local geography.

So if the question is simply which school is stronger for internship opportunities overall, ASU is the safer answer. FIU is especially compelling if your goal is to work in Miami or in industries where South Florida is the real draw.
