Is Bucknell or Georgetown more prestigious?

Georgetown is more prestigious in the way most people use that word. It has much broader national and international name recognition, a stronger reputation in fields like politics, international relations, business, and law, and it is usually seen as operating on a different tier of visibility than Bucknell. Among students, employers, and graduate schools, the Georgetown name is simply more widely known.

One big differentiator is reach. Georgetown has a global profile tied to Washington, D.C., public service, diplomacy, and high-level policy work, so people far outside the Northeast often know it immediately. Bucknell is well respected, but its reputation is more regional and more closely associated with being a strong liberal arts focused university rather than a nationally dominant brand.

Another difference is the kind of reputation each school has built. Georgetown is especially prominent in government, international affairs, finance, and pre-law circles, and that visibility affects how people talk about its status overall. Bucknell has a solid academic reputation and strong alumni loyalty, especially in engineering, business, and undergraduate teaching, but it does not carry the same across-the-board prestige signal in casual conversation or professional settings.

From an admissions perspective, Georgetown is also usually perceived as more selective and more of a household name, which matters when people use prestige as shorthand.
