When does UC Berkeley have spring break for 2025?

I’m planning ahead for some potential college visits and I want to make sure I avoid the week of spring break at UC Berkeley. Does anyone know what week their spring break is in 2025?

I checked their academic calendar online but it’s a little confusing to me, so if someone could clarify the exact dates I’d be really grateful. Also, for students who go there, is campus totally empty during break or do people stick around? I’m just trying to figure out the best week to come when everything is still active but the weather's nice.

For spring 2025, UC Berkeley’s official spring break is scheduled for the week of March 24–28, 2025. This information comes from their academic calendar, which sometimes lists the full term dates in a block, so it can definitely get confusing! So if you’re hoping to visit while classes are in session and campus life is active, you’ll want to avoid that exact week: March 24 through March 28.

In terms of what campus feels like during spring break, it quiets down a lot. Many students use the opportunity to travel home, go on trips, or just take a break from their usual routine. You’ll still find some students—particularly international students or those living in the dorms—but libraries, cafés, and student centers have reduced activity, and student organizations won’t be hosting their regular meetings and events. If your goal is to get a feel for "real" campus life, it’s better to come either the week before or after spring break.

For example, if you were planning for late March, visiting during the week of March 17–21 (before spring break) or March 31–April 4 (right after) will mean both classes and extracurriculars are back in full swing. Earlier weeks in March also tend to have decent weather, with the campus in bloom but not yet into finals season stress. Late March or early April is usually a sweet spot for both activity and California spring weather!

If you want to see clubs tabling, professors on campus, and students going to class, just avoid March 24–28. That way, you'll get a true sense of daily life at Berkeley.
