University of Richmond vs. Villanova for business: which is better for undergraduates?

I’m trying to decide between University of Richmond and Villanova for business and I want to understand which one is generally considered stronger for an undergraduate business student.

I care most about the quality of the business program, internship opportunities, and how well the school seems to place students into business careers after graduation.

The biggest practical tradeoff is Richmond’s smaller, more personalized undergraduate environment versus Villanova’s stronger national business visibility and larger pipeline into major employers. Richmond’s Robins School of Business is well regarded and benefits from small classes, close faculty access, and the fact that undergraduates get a lot of attention. Villanova’s business school tends to carry broader name recognition, especially in finance and corporate recruiting circles, and its location near Philadelphia helps with internship access during the school year.

For pure undergraduate business reputation, Villanova usually has the edge. Its School of Business is one of the school’s main draws, and it has a particularly visible presence in fields like finance, accounting, and consulting. Richmond is still a strong option, but its business program is more often appreciated for teaching quality, advising, and undergraduate focus than for sheer market visibility.

On internships, Villanova has a real advantage because of proximity to Philadelphia and access to alumni across the Northeast. Students can more easily pursue in-semester opportunities, networking events, and employer connections in a major business region. Richmond has solid internship outcomes too, especially with support from the school and access to Richmond, Washington, D.C., and other East Coast markets, but the immediate geographic pull is not quite as strong.

For career placement, both schools do well, but Villanova tends to feel more connected to high-volume business recruiting. Richmond students often do very well because the school invests heavily in career support and the student body is small enough that resources can feel very accessible. Still, if you are asking which school is more commonly seen as the stronger undergraduate business brand, Villanova is the one that more people in business recruiting are likely to recognize quickly.

Villanova is the stronger pick if your priority is business reputation, internship access, and broad recruiting momentum. Richmond becomes especially appealing if you want a smaller campus, more individualized attention, and a business program that may feel more personal day to day.
