Which is generally more fun for college life, Arizona State or San Diego State?

Both can be a lot of fun, but they feel different. Arizona State tends to suit students who want a huge, high-energy college scene with constant activity, big-school spirit, and lots of ways to plug in socially. San Diego State usually appeals more to students who want a social campus too, but with a more contained, classic residential feel and the added draw of being in San Diego.

At ASU, the biggest advantage is sheer scale. The Tempe campus is enormous, packed with events, clubs, Greek life, athletics, concerts, and a lot going on both on campus and along Mill Avenue. Students who like variety and don’t want to feel boxed into one social scene often enjoy ASU because there are so many different crowds, and it’s hard to run out of things to do. The tradeoff is that a very large campus can feel less intimate, so some students love the energy while others find it a little sprawling.

SDSU often feels more cohesive day to day. It has a strong social reputation, solid school spirit, active Greek life, and a campus culture where students often seem genuinely happy to be there. Because it is more residential in feel, it can be easier to picture a tight-knit college lifestyle centered around campus, friends, weekends, and the San Diego weather. For students who care a lot about the surrounding city, beaches, and a more polished Southern California vibe, SDSU has obvious appeal.

If your version of fun means nonstop options, a giant student body, and a louder, more expansive social environment, ASU has the edge. If fun to you means a social but more centered campus experience in a location many students find especially attractive, SDSU often stands out more.
