Tulane or NYU for finance careers: which is better for recruiting and networking?
I’m trying to decide between Tulane and NYU and want to focus on finance careers after college. I know both are known in different ways, but I’m mainly trying to understand which school has the stronger path into banking or other finance roles.
I’m looking at things like recruiting access, alumni connections, and how much the school name helps in finance.

For finance recruiting, NYU usually offers the more direct path, especially for investment banking, markets, and buy-side roles tied to New York. Its location and the density of alumni in finance make it easier to build relevant experience during the school year. If your goal is to maximize access to formal recruiting pipelines and networking in the biggest finance hub, NYU has the clearer edge.
Tulane makes sense for a student who wants a more traditional campus environment and is still serious about business, but may not need the same level of nonstop Wall Street proximity. Tulane has a loyal alumni network, particularly in the South, in areas like commercial banking, wealth management, corporate finance, and some investment banking. It can absolutely lead to strong outcomes, but the process is usually more relationship-driven and less naturally built into daily access than at NYU.
For a student targeting high-finance roles very specifically, Tulane often requires more intentional effort: traveling for networking, leaning hard on alumni outreach, and being proactive about internships outside the immediate region. At NYU, that same effort still matters, but the ecosystem around you does more of the work. You are simply closer to the firms, the events, and the alumni base most tied to front-office finance.
If you are choosing based mainly on recruiting and networking strength for finance, NYU is the stronger option. Tulane becomes more compelling if you value campus life, regional flexibility, and a broader college experience enough that you are comfortable trading some recruiting convenience for that environment.
