Is Loyola Marymount University or UCLA better for business majors?
I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down my college list, and both Loyola Marymount and UCLA are on my radar for business. I know they have very different campus cultures and reputations, but I’m mainly trying to understand which one is generally stronger for business students.

UCLA is the stronger choice for business-related study in most cases. It has broader academic depth in economics, accounting, entrepreneurship, and related fields, a much larger alumni network in Southern California and beyond, and stronger name recognition with many employers. For a student thinking about finance, consulting, corporate roles, or keeping multiple career paths open, UCLA usually offers more reach.
One important differentiator is program structure. UCLA does not have a traditional undergraduate business major in the same way some private universities do, but it offers Business Economics as a very established path, along with strong options in economics, math/econ, statistics, and minors or student organizations tied to business. That means business-oriented students can still build a very marketable profile, especially if they are proactive about internships and clubs.
Another difference is recruiting and scale. UCLA benefits from being a major public university in Los Angeles with heavy employer visibility, a deep alumni base, and a large volume of student organizations focused on investment banking, consulting, entrepreneurship, and accounting. That ecosystem matters because a lot of business opportunities come from peer networks, club pipelines, and internship access as much as coursework.
LMU does have real advantages, especially if you want smaller classes, more direct faculty access, and a campus environment that feels more personal. Its College of Business Administration is well regarded, and students can get strong hands-on support and internship access in LA. But when students ask which school is more powerful overall for business outcomes and reputation, UCLA tends to come out ahead.
