Loyola Marymount vs CU Boulder for business: which is better for internships and job placement?

I’m trying to decide between Loyola Marymount and CU Boulder for business and keep getting stuck on the career outcomes part. I care a lot about internships, recruiting, and how easy it is to get a solid job after graduation.

I know both schools have different strengths, but I’m mostly trying to understand which one gives business students a stronger path into internships and first jobs.

For business internships and first-job access, Loyola Marymount usually has the clearer edge if you want to be close to employers from day one. Its Los Angeles location matters a lot: students can intern during the school year more easily, and LMU’s business students benefit from ties to companies in entertainment, media, finance, consulting, real estate, and consumer brands across LA. The smaller undergraduate environment also tends to make networking with professors, alumni, and career staff feel more accessible.

LMU fits the student who wants a more relationship-driven recruiting process and plans to use the city as part of their education. If you are the kind of student who will actively reach out to alumni, attend employer events, and take advantage of semester internships, LMU can be very effective because the market is right there. For industries where location and networking matter a lot, especially marketing, media-adjacent business roles, and certain finance paths, that can translate into strong early experience.

CU Boulder makes more sense for the student who wants a bigger public-university ecosystem and is comfortable being more self-directed in recruiting. Leeds has a solid reputation, a large alumni base, and strong connections in Colorado, especially around Denver, Boulder, and growing sectors like tech, entrepreneurship, operations, and real estate. You may find more scale in employer outreach and a broader campus recruiting environment, but the process can feel less personal and often requires more initiative to stand out.

For job placement, a lot depends on where you want to build your career. CU Boulder can open doors very well in Colorado and in companies that regularly recruit from large flagship universities. LMU tends to punch above its size in Southern California because of proximity and alumni relationships, which is especially useful if you want to stay in LA after graduation.

So the real divide is this: LMU is often stronger for students who want frequent in-semester internship access and a direct pipeline into the LA market, while CU Boulder is attractive for students who want a larger business school network and are targeting Colorado or a broader western public-university recruiting scene. For pure internship convenience and hands-on access during college, LMU has the more immediate advantage.
