How much do you need to pay when applying to UC Berkeley?
I'm trying to finalize my college list and I need to know how much each application will cost. I keep seeing different numbers online for how much you have to pay to apply to UC Berkeley. Some places say $70, some say $80, and I know there are fee waivers but I'm not sure if those are easy to get.
Does anyone know the real, current application fee for Berkeley? If you applied this year, what did you pay? Also, if you’ve used a fee waiver with UC schools, could you explain how that worked for you? I’m trying to budget for all my applications and avoid surprises. Any info is appreciated!

For fall 2024 applicants, the standard application fee to apply to UC Berkeley—and all University of California campuses—is $80 per campus for US residents and permanent residents. If you are an international student or a nonimmigrant visa holder, the fee is $95 per campus. So, if you're applying to multiple UCs (for example, Berkeley and UCLA), you need to pay $80 for each one.
If you apply through the UC Application, the fee is clearly stated before submission, and you'll need to pay for each campus you select. The system updates its payment page every year, but for 2023-2024, the $80 is correct for domestic applicants.
As for fee waivers, the UC system does offer them! When you fill out the UC application, there’s a section that will automatically determine your eligibility for a fee waiver based on your family income and household size, following specific income guidelines. If you qualify, it will cover application fees for up to four UC campuses. For example, if you’re eligible and select four schools (including Berkeley), you pay $0. If you want to add more, you'll pay the fee for each additional campus beyond four.
From personal experience, the fee waiver process is pretty straightforward in the UC application—the system tells you right away if you qualify, and it applies the waiver automatically in the payment section. Just be prepared to accurately provide household income and size.
In summary: applying to Berkeley is $80 if you’re a U.S. resident, $95 if international. Use the automatic waiver check in the application if you think you might qualify. Good luck with your college list and budgeting!
