Villanova vs Fordham for city access: which campus gives better access to a major city?

Fordham gives noticeably better city access, especially if you want the city to feel like an everyday part of college life rather than a separate weekend destination. At Fordham, New York is not just nearby, it is built into the student experience, and both major campuses connect directly to the city through public transit. Villanova does give you access to Philadelphia, but it feels more suburban first and city second.

The biggest difference is physical setup. Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus is in Manhattan, so you are already in the middle of a major city, and even Rose Hill in the Bronx is tied into NYC through the subway and Metro-North. That means internships, concerts, museums, neighborhoods, and off-campus restaurants are part of normal student routines, not something that requires much planning.

Villanova is on the Main Line outside Philadelphia, and that suburban environment is a real part of its identity. You can get into Center City by SEPTA Regional Rail, so Philly is definitely accessible, but it usually feels more like a trip into the city than an extension of campus. For weekends and occasional outings, that can be great, but it is less seamless than Fordham.

For internships, Fordham also has the edge because being in New York makes it easier to fit professional experiences around classes during the semester. Villanova students can absolutely intern in Philadelphia, but the day-to-day convenience is not the same.
