Is Fordham or UConn better for marketing?

I’m trying to decide between Fordham and UConn and I’m interested in studying marketing. I know both schools are solid, but I’m having trouble figuring out which one has the stronger marketing program overall and better opportunities for internships and recruiting.

I want to choose the school that would give me the best path into marketing after college.

The biggest practical tradeoff is location versus campus ecosystem. Fordham gives you direct access to New York City, which matters a lot for marketing because internships, agencies, media companies, and corporate offices are woven into the school year. UConn offers a more traditional large-university business experience with a bigger flagship campus, a broad alumni base, and strong recruiting, but it is not embedded in a major marketing hub in the same way.

For marketing specifically, Fordham often has the edge on real-time access to internships and industry exposure. Being in the New York market can make it easier to pick up part-time internships during the semester, attend employer events, and build connections in advertising, brand management, digital marketing, fashion, media, and consumer products. That kind of proximity can matter more in marketing than in some other business fields because the industry is so relationship-driven and tied to major cities.

UConn’s School of Business is well regarded and can absolutely lead to strong outcomes, especially if you want a classic big-school experience with lots of campus energy, school spirit, and a wide range of business resources. Its scale can be a plus, and employers do recruit there. But for marketing, many students end up relying more heavily on summer internships or traveling for certain opportunities, whereas Fordham students can more naturally integrate New York experience into the academic year.

If cost is significantly better at UConn, though, that can easily outweigh the location advantage, because marketing is not a field where prestige alone drives hiring. Between the two, Fordham is the more directly connected option for marketing, while UConn is the better value play only if the price difference is substantial.
