Fordham vs UConn for accounting: which is better for internships and job placement?

The biggest practical tradeoff is location versus cost structure. Fordham gives you direct access to New York City, which matters a lot in accounting because internships, networking events, and recruiter visits are concentrated there, especially with Big Four and other large firms. UConn has a respected business school and strong placement in the Northeast, but its internship access is usually more structured through recruiting pipelines rather than being embedded in the city where many firms operate.

For internships during the school year, Fordham has a real advantage. Being in the NYC market makes it easier to intern part time during fall or spring, attend employer events, and build contacts before junior summer. For accounting specifically, that proximity can make the path to audit, tax, or advisory roles feel more immediate.

For job placement, both can lead to strong outcomes, but the likely geography is different. Fordham places especially well into New York area roles, and that matters if your goal is to work in NYC right after graduation. UConn has a solid reputation with employers in Connecticut, Boston, and the broader Northeast, and its alumni network in those regions is meaningful, especially through the School of Business.

On pure accounting program reputation, UConn is very credible and often seen as a strong value option, particularly if you are in-state. It can absolutely get you to major firms, and many employers know the program well. But Fordham tends to have the edge in internship convenience and NYC-facing recruiting simply because of where it is and who comes to campus.

If your top priority is maximizing access to internships during college and aiming for a first job in New York accounting, Fordham has the sharper advantage. If UConn is significantly cheaper, though, it is still a very strong choice for accounting and may be the smarter return on investment unless Fordham’s NYC access is worth the extra cost to you.
