Is Lehigh or NYU better for internships and career opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between Lehigh and NYU, and internships are a big part of my decision. I want to know which school generally gives students better access to internship opportunities and recruiting support, especially for someone who wants to build experience during college.

I’m mainly looking at overall career access, not just campus life or academics.

The biggest practical tradeoff is access versus structure. NYU gives you unmatched day-to-day proximity to employers in New York City, so internships during the semester are much easier to fit into your schedule. Lehigh usually offers a more contained campus recruiting environment, where employer connections, alumni outreach, and career advising can feel more personal and easier to navigate.

For pure internship volume, NYU has the edge. Being in Manhattan matters a lot for fields like finance, media, marketing, tech, startups, entertainment, nonprofits, and many corporate roles because students can intern part time during the academic year without relocating for the summer.

The main caution with NYU is that access is not the same as hand-holding. There are many opportunities, but students often need to be proactive, organized, and comfortable networking in a fast-moving city. At Lehigh, there may be fewer internships within immediate walking distance during the semester, but the support system can feel more guided.

If your priority is maximizing internship access across many industries while building experience continuously during college, NYU comes out ahead. If you want solid outcomes with somewhat more personal recruiting support and a tighter alumni-driven network, Lehigh is compelling, but for overall internship and career opportunity breadth, NYU is the stronger pick.
