William & Mary vs USC for pre med: which is better for preparing for medical school?

For pre med, both can work well, but they support students in different ways. William & Mary tends to stand out for close faculty access and a campus culture built heavily around undergraduates, while USC has the advantage of being connected to a large medical ecosystem with more built-in exposure to health settings.

If your main priority is classroom support, faculty relationships, and an environment where undergraduates are central, William & Mary has a real edge. That matters for pre med because strong advising, good recommendation letters, and easier access to professors can make a difference over four years. It can also be a more manageable place to build leadership and research involvement early, rather than competing with a very large student population.

USC’s biggest strength for pre med is opportunity density. Being in LA and tied to a major medical center means more nearby hospitals, labs, public health organizations, and shadowing possibilities.
