UT Austin or Ohio State for marketing: which is the better choice for an undergraduate marketing major?

I’m trying to decide between UT Austin and Ohio State for marketing, and I keep seeing both schools mentioned as strong options. I’m a current high school student trying to figure out which one has the better overall fit for someone who wants to study marketing and eventually get internships and a good job after college.

I’m mostly interested in which school has the stronger reputation and opportunities for marketing students.

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: UT Austin tends to carry more national brand power in business, while Ohio State often offers a very large alumni network and strong access to Midwest corporate recruiting. For undergraduate marketing specifically, UT’s McCombs School of Business is usually the more distinctive name on a résumé, and Austin’s startup, tech, and consumer-brand scene creates a strong environment for internships. Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business is also well respected, especially with major employers in Ohio and the broader Midwest, and its scale can translate into a huge volume of student orgs, recruiting activity, and alumni connections.

If your question is mainly about reputation, UT Austin has the edge. McCombs is one of the most recognized undergraduate business schools in the country, and that reputation tends to travel well beyond Texas. For marketing students, being in Austin also matters because the city has a steady mix of tech, media, retail, and emerging brands where students can find hands-on experience during the school year.

Ohio State is not far behind in terms of practical opportunity, but the feel is a bit different. Fisher is strong, established, and employer-connected, and Ohio State’s alumni base is enormous. That can be especially useful if you want internships or jobs in Columbus, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, or other Midwest markets where the Buckeye network is very visible.

For pure undergraduate marketing strength and broad reputation, I’d give the nod to UT Austin. I would lean Ohio State only if the cost is meaningfully lower or if you know you want to build your career in the Midwest, because in that case the alumni reach and regional employer ties can make it the smarter move.
