Is Tulane or Boston College better for finance careers?

I’m trying to decide between Tulane and Boston College and want to study finance. Both seem like strong schools, but I’m mostly thinking about which one has the better reputation and outcomes for landing finance jobs after graduation.

I’m not just looking at the school name overall, but which one is generally better for someone aiming for a finance career.

The biggest practical tradeoff is geography and recruiting reach: Boston College puts you much closer to major finance hubs in the Northeast, while Tulane offers a strong business environment and loyal alumni network but is usually less central in finance recruiting. For finance specifically, Boston College has the stronger overall reputation with employers, especially in areas like investment banking, asset management, and corporate finance. Its Carroll School of Management is well known, and BC tends to have deeper pipelines into Boston, New York, and other East Coast firms.

Tulane can still work very well for finance, particularly if you are proactive, network hard, and take advantage of its business school resources and alumni connections. It has a respected undergraduate business program, and students do place into finance roles, but the path is often a bit less direct than at BC for the most competitive finance tracks. New Orleans also offers fewer large-scale finance recruiting opportunities than Boston.

If you care most about reputation and outcomes for finance jobs right after graduation, Boston College has the clearer edge. That advantage is not just about prestige in the abstract. It is about employer familiarity, stronger on-campus access to finance recruiting, and location that makes internships and networking easier during the school year.

Tulane becomes more compelling if you strongly prefer its campus culture, merit aid, or overall college experience and are comfortable being more self-driven in recruiting. But on the question you actually asked, Boston College is the better bet for finance careers.
