Is NYU or Temple better for getting jobs in New York City after college?

NYU has the clearer advantage for getting jobs in New York City after college. It is already in Manhattan, its alumni network is deeply concentrated in NYC, and many employers recruit there with the expectation that students want to stay in the city. If your goal is specifically to build connections and interview pipelines in New York while you are still in school, NYU makes that path more direct.

NYU tends to fit the student who wants day-to-day access to the NYC job market from the start. That matters because internships during the semester, networking events, alumni panels, and part-time work are easier when you are already in the city where you hope to launch your career. Employers in finance, media, entertainment, tech, consulting, and nonprofits are very familiar with NYU, and that familiarity often helps when recruiters are sorting through large applicant pools.

Temple can still lead to NYC jobs, especially for a student who is proactive and cost-conscious. Philadelphia is close enough to New York that students can pursue NYC internships, networking trips, and post-grad applications there. A Temple student who builds strong experience, uses alumni connections intentionally, and targets New York early can absolutely land in the city.

Where Temple is more likely to require extra effort is in proximity and default employer access. You would probably need to be more deliberate about traveling to New York, building a network there, and explaining your interest in the city. With NYU, that interest is assumed, and the school’s location and brand make NYC recruiting feel more built in.

So if the question is purely which school is viewed more strongly by NYC employers and gives the smoother route into New York jobs, NYU is the stronger option.
