What's the process for getting an unofficial transcript from UC Berkeley?

I'm a current junior looking ahead at college applications and I want to request an unofficial transcript from UC Berkeley, but I'm feeling kind of lost on where to start. Does anybody know exactly where to go online for this, or if I need to reach out to a counselor or registrar first?

I'm also wondering if there are any fees or waiting times for getting unofficial transcripts, or if they're available right away. I want to have everything ready before I start filling out applications, so any step-by-step advice would be really appreciated! If someone who's done this recently could share their experience, that'd be super helpful.

To get your unofficial transcript from UC Berkeley, you don’t need to contact a counselor or the registrar directly—it’s all handled online and is pretty straightforward. Here’s how you can get it:

1. Log in to CalCentral (http://calcentral.berkeley.edu/) using your CalNet ID.
2. Once you’re logged in, click on the “My Academics” tab.
3. Under "Academic Records," you’ll see the option for "View Unofficial Transcript." Click that, and you’ll get a PDF that you can view, save, or print for your reference.

There are no fees for accessing or downloading your unofficial transcript, and it’s available instantly after you make the request. If you want a physical copy, you can just print the PDF yourself. The only cost would be if you need printed copies and have to use a library or external printer.

It’s worth noting that unofficial transcripts are generally used for personal reference, scholarship applications, or initial job applications. For college applications, most universities want official transcripts eventually, but having an unofficial one helps you fill out your coursework accurately ahead of time.

As a quick example: last semester, a student needed his grades and GPA to fill out a summer program application. He logged on to CalCentral, had the PDF downloaded in just a couple of minutes, and was able to double-check all details before submitting the program app. No waiting period at all.

If you have any problems, the student services desk can point you in the right direction, but most students never hit a snag. CalCentral is your main hub for anything academic at Cal, including forms like unofficial transcripts. Good luck with your applications!
