Notre Dame has one of the most recognizable football identities in the country, and that history shapes campus traditions in a very visible way.

In everyday student life, Michigan probably feels more saturated with sports. Ann Arbor has the energy of a major public university where athletics are part of the rhythm of the year, and students often follow multiple teams closely. The size of the student body, the breadth of the athletic program, and the visibility of sports around campus make it feel like sports are always happening, not just on a few marquee weekends.

Notre Dame’s sports culture is extremely strong too, but it is more concentrated around football and the specific rituals tied to it.
